With the end of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the emphasis has switched to the ODI series. India will meet Australia in a three-match One-Day International series beginning on March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
With the proximity of the ODI World Cup, this series will be crucial for both nations. India and Australia both have a lot of injury worries, so they’ll be hoping to finish this series on a high note and get their squad combinations right.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that the series would be contested hard by both sides and has not picked any favourites to win it.
“When I watch Australia’s ODI team, I am impressed. That is a squad that will challenge India. This will not be a 3-0 series. It may go 2-1 in either direction. I would not suggest that it can solely benefit India “Chopra was reported on his YouTube channel as stating.
Chopra believes that Australia’s starting pair of David Warner and Travis Head will be a strong one in this series. Aakash Chopra also emphasised Australia’s formidable middle order, with Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, and Glenn Maxwell returning to the team after lengthy absences due to injury. He also mentioned their lower middle order power hitters, such as Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green, who will be playing in the IPL on this ground in a few weeks.
“David Warner, who has been training in the Mumbai lanes, will be the captain, followed by Steve Smith. Travis Head is doing well as an opener. The opening combination of David Warner and Travis Head is working extremely well, and Travis Head is really batting pretty well, as we witnessed lately in Test matches “Chopra went on to say.
