Former India opener Virender Sehwag spoke up about Virat Kohli’s unprecedented international achievements. The veteran cricketer said that he did not anticipate Kohli scoring so many runs or hundreds. No one doubted Kohli’s ability, according to Sehwag, but he never imagined Kohli would go on to score more than 70 international hundreds.
Interestingly, Kohli recently broke his Test century drought, striking one against Australia in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Ahmedabad. Kohli has now amassed 25233 runs in 494 international games, with 75 hundreds and 129 half-centuries to his name. In December 2022, he achieved his 72nd international century, surpassing Ricky Ponting’s record of 71.
“We all knew that Virat Kohli was highly gifted, But I didn’t imagine he would reach this level. We thought he’d be successful because of the manner he batted against Lasith Malinga in Australia to win the game. I didn’t expect him to hit so many hundreds or score so many runs. He proved me wrong, and it’s incredible what he’s accomplished,” Sehwag recently stated on Ranveer Allahabadia’s programme.
Sehwag also remarked that Kohli became successful in the game because to his discipline. He believed that although several new players made their national debuts in 2008, no one could match Kohli’s achievement in the sport.
“Virat knew very early in his career that he would have to be disciplined if he wanted to play cricket for a long length of time. Few players have recognised this so early on. Several players arrived and departed at the same period. Later Rohit Sharma joined the Test and white-ball squads, sparking a rivalry between the two. Sometimes such a competition helps you develop your game,” Sehwag stated.
