Due to a reoccurring back ailment, India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the forthcoming three-match ODI series against Australia at home, and he may be unavailable for the Kolkata Knight Riders for the first few games of the 2019 IPL season.
The existing KKR captain is said to be straining to walk, and if the rumours are true, KKR may have to hunt for a possible leader to take them through their first few games. Shreyas has been suffering from a back problem for quite some time.
His back issue had forced him to miss the three-match ODI series against New Zealand at home, and Rajat Patidar was asked to fill in for him. Iyer was also absent for the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and Team India instead chose Suryakumar Yadav to bat in the middle order.
Although returning to India’s playing Eleven for the third Test in Delhi, Iyer was unable to produce a memorable performance, scoring 4 and 12 in the game. The Indore Test was likewise a disappointing experience for the right-handed hitter, who was out for a duck in the first innings and scored just 26 runs in the second as the hosts lost by nine wickets.
As India faced Australia in the fourth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, all eyes were on him. Nevertheless, Iyer’s ailment worsened, and he was sent for scans and was unable to bat in the game as a result.
In the IPL 2022, KKR finished seventh on the points table at the conclusion of the league stages and did not advance to the playoffs. As a result, Iyer’s availability is critical for the franchise ahead of the 2018 season, or else they risk losing him.
