Sunil Gavaskar lauds Hardik Pandya’s captaincy skills ahead of India’s ODI series against Australia

After India’s 2-1 victory over Australia in the four-match Test series in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the visitors would be eager to settle the score in the forthcoming ODI series. India and Australia will meet in a three-match One-Day International series beginning on March 17.

As India prepares to face the formidable Australians, the hosts will be without captain Rohit Sharma in the opening ODI owing to family obligations. In his absence, Hardik Pandya will captain Team India in the opening ODI.

Upon the news that Hardik would captain India in the first ODI, veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar praised Pandya and his leadership. He also believes Pandya provides a feeling of ease to the team and that his treatment of players is among the finest.

During an appearance on Star Sports’ ‘Game Plan,’ the 73-year-old extolled the all-leadership rounder’s talents. A group of specialists gathered to discuss a number of subjects ahead of India’s ODI series against Australia.

“Hardik Pandya’s presence as captain instills confidence in the rest of the squad. Maybe it’s the way he treats the players, putting his arm around them… He simply appears to make the athletes feel at ease. It’s critical to provide a player with a feeling of security so that he may go out and play his natural game. I believe he promotes them, which is a fantastic indication “The Little Master said.

“He’s been an excellent captain. I’ve been quite pleased with his leadership for the Gujarat Titans and for India when he captains the T20 team. I feel that if he wins the first game in Mumbai, he will almost certainly be named India’s captain once the World Cup concludes in 2023 “He went on to say.
