Rahul Dravid, a former India captain, has been coaching Team India for about 16 months. Notwithstanding a handful of heartbreaks in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup last year, Team India has generally been on a winning streak since he took over.
During an appearance on Cricbuzz Plus’ ‘The Rise of New India’ programme, veteran India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik disclosed an occasion in which Dravid lauded Bhuvneshwar Kumar at a team meeting after a batter-oriented game. Karthik said that Dravid was grateful for the bowler’s efforts during one of India’s recent triumphs.
“Rahul Dravid actually raved about him for five minutes at the start of a team meeting. Simply said, he is unassuming and quiet, and I believe it is critical to give the devil his due at a team meeting. He mentioned Bhuvneshwar Kumar and how important he has been in Indian cricket for so many years in white-ball cricket “Karthik talked to Cricbuzz Plus.
“It was extremely encouraging to hear because we are often obsessed with batsmanship – individuals clearly smashing fours and sixes – but here is one person who has consistently succeeded with the ball and been a prolific performer for Team India in addition to his franchise. Bhuvneshwar Kumar deserves a lot of credit “Karthik elaborated.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one player who gave India a fairytale start. During the 2008-2009 Ranji Trophy season, he became the first player to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar for a duck, and he went on to have a phoenix-like ascent in Indian colours. This accomplishment was accomplished in the final between Uttar Pradesh and Bombay, which Mumbai won by 243 runs.
After the Ranji Tournament, he stunned archrivals Pakistan with a three-wicket haul in his T20I debut. He is the one who popularised the phrase “banana swing,” taking wickets of Nasir Jamshed, Ahmed Shehzad, and Umar Akmal using the tactic. Remarkably, he developed into an all-format bowler for India, but repeated physical setbacks confined him to white-ball cricket.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar will soon be seen donning the SRH shirt in the 2018 IPL, which is set to begin on April 2 against the Rajasthan Royals.
