Following the final game of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad, India regained the prestigious trophy after defeating Australia 2-1. After the conclusion of the Test series, both sides will face off in a three-match ODI series beginning on March 17.
But, when the series begins, India will be without captain Rohit Sharma, who will be away from the opening ODI between India and Australia owing to family obligations. In his absence, the hosts will be led by Hardik Pandya in the opening encounter.
Even though Rohit will miss the first ODI, veteran India bowler Ajit Agarkar praised the star batter’s records. Agarkar believes that once Rohit enters the camp for the remaining ODIs, he would continue to demonstrate his batting brilliance.
On discussing the captain’s performance on the Star Sports programme ‘Game Plan,’ Agarkar was effusive in his praise for Rohit. He also believes that Rohit’s patience and refusal to attack straight away were key factors in his century against Australia in the first Test.
“His track record is self-evident. You don’t need to mention anything about Rohit’s white ball performance. He has adopted a somewhat different strategy at times, aiming to be the aggressor at the top of the order. Maybe he modified it somewhat in the previous series, allowing himself a little more time, and got the hundred. I just hope he plays every game India plays from now on, every one-day game, because you want your captain to simply have a pattern of play out there “Agarkar went on to say.
“Due to personal circumstances, he is missing the first one. You would not have adequate one-days to establish your ideas after that. You want Rohit out there, as physically demanding as the captain’s job might be; you don’t want him to miss any games. In terms of his batting, I don’t believe he has any concerns “He went on to say.
