Youngster Shubman Gill played a magnificent inning on Day 3 of the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scoring his second Test century to help India regain momentum. Speaking to Cheteshwar Pujara after the match, Gill shared that he was determined to make the most of the opportunity to score on the excellent batting wicket. Additionally, he expressed how special it was for him to perform well at his home ground in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gill shared his mindset while batting, “Honestly, I was thinking that I don’t know when I will get a wicket like this. I didn’t want to miss this opportunity by playing a bad shot. That was going in my mind. I was still trying to be positive, keep looking for singles and that’s what we were talking about when we were batting that keep looking for singles and whenever the bowler bowls a bad ball, just go for the shot.”
Gill’s knock was pivotal in India’s quest to match Australia’s mammoth total in the first innings, and his century has put India in a strong position. Gill was pleased with his performance at his home ground, “I mean I have to, you know. This is my IPL home ground and I am glad to be able to get some runs under my belt on this ground.”
The youngster’s second Test century has also earned him praise from cricket pundits, with many hailing his composed and patient approach at the crease. Gill’s innings has cemented his place in the Indian Test team and has shown his ability to perform under pressure.
