Ravichandran Ashwin Surpasses Anil Kumble’s Record in Style!

In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Ravichandran Ashwin has been a vital part of India’s spin attack, and in the fourth Test, he surpassed Anil Kumble’s feat of claiming the most wickets for India against Australia in Tests. The 36-year-old off-spinner claimed figures of 6/91 with the ball against Australia in the first innings and reached the milestone with Todd Murphy’s wicket, taking a fifer in the game.

Kumble, who retired from international cricket in November 2008, ended his career fetching 111 wickets in 38 innings of 20 Tests against Australia. Ashwin has now become India’s leading wicket-taker against the Aussies, with 113 wickets in 41 innings of 22 Tests. The legendary spinner has also levelled Australia’s Nathan Lyon’s feat of taking the most wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which currently stands at 113.

With 24 wickets in seven innings of four games, Ashwin is currently ruling the chart with the most wickets in the ongoing Test series. In the first Test of the competition in Nagpur, he also became the second bowler to take 450 wickets for India in the longest format of the sport, dismissing Alex Carey in the first innings.

Ashwin’s record-breaking performances have been crucial in India’s fight against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and his latest feat has added another feather to his already illustrious cap.
