In the latest ICC Test rankings for bowlers, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has lost his number one spot to James Anderson. Ashwin lost six points, settling for a joint-first position with the legendary English fast bowler, Anderson.
The change in rankings occurred after the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy held in Indore, where Ashwin could not deliver his usual stellar performance. He only picked up four wickets in two innings, and India suffered their first loss of the tournament against Australia by nine wickets.
This lackluster performance by Ashwin had an impact on his overall rating, causing him to lose points and his dominance on the rankings. Currently, both Ashwin and Anderson are tied at the top with 859 points each.
Interestingly, despite missing the bulk of the ongoing series due to his mother’s illness, Australian skipper Pat Cummins finds himself in third place on the rankings, only ten points behind Ashwin and Anderson.
It is worth noting that Ashwin has been in excellent form in the past few years, and he has played a crucial role in India’s recent Test victories. Despite this slight setback, it is expected that Ashwin will bounce back and continue to contribute to the Indian cricket team’s success.
