Amidst controversy surrounding the Indore pitch at the Holkar Cricket Stadium during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering a challenge to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rating of the pitch. The ICC’s decision has garnered attention after match referee Chris Broad deemed the pitch to be unbalanced and favouring spinners too heavily, resulting in excessive and uneven bounce.
The Indore pitch has already received three demerit points and is at risk of suspension for one year from hosting international matches if it accumulates two more points over the next five years. BCCI officials stated that they will assess the situation before deciding whether to challenge the ICC’s verdict. Cricket commentator Sunil Gavaskar has publicly criticized the decision and questioned the ICC’s leniency with other pitches.
