India has retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a convincing victory over Australia in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The visitors’ batting line-up was destroyed by Indian bowlers on the third day, with Ravindra Jadeja recording his best figures of 7/42, and Ravichandran Ashwin taking 3/59.
With the Australian team skittled out for just 113 runs, Indian batters chased the low total before tea with six wickets in hand, thanks to the incredible bowling performances of the all-rounders. The first Test of the tournament, played in Nagpur, had also ended in three days with India winning by an innings and 132 runs.
Recently, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin released a video on his YouTube channel, discussing the team’s amazing win in the Delhi Test. Ashwin also revealed a conversation with a co-passenger on a flight, who had asked him why the Indian team had finished the Test in just three days.
Ashwin responded, “Cricketers these days don’t wanna take time and then score runs. But just because of that, we should not compare both approaches and judge who is better. We should never compare across generations. Secondly, both of these games shouldn’t have ended in 3 days.”
The high-spirited Indian team will now aim to clinch the series by defeating the fragile Australian team in the third Test at the Holkar Stadium in Indore from March 1 to March 5.
