Harmanpreet Kaur thanks supporters in an emotional message following her semi-final exit.

Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s women’s captain, has written an emotional post in which she expresses her appreciation to fans all around the world for their unwavering support and promises to return stronger with her team in the next matches.

India was eliminated from the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. They had put up a spirited fight against Australia, and at one point appeared to be sailing through, but Harmanpreet Kaur’s run-out was the big turning moment, and the strong Aussies finally had the last laugh.

As the Ladies in Blue lost three early wickets up front, the all-rounder and Jemimah Rodrigues were guiding India’s chase. The players put up a terrific combination, with Kaur scoring 52 off 34 deliveries.

She appeared to have the whole purpose to almost single-handedly drag India through, as she had done against the same opponent in the 2017 World Cup Semi-finals, but regrettably, her untimely run-out in the most awful scenario severely shattered India’s dreams of reaching another T20 World Cup final.

Kaur rued her team’s lost chances as well at the post-match presentation, as she branded it “extremely unlucky”.

“Can’t be unluckier than this, to gain that momentum back when me and Jemi (Jemimah Rodrigues) were batting. We didn’t expect to lose after that today. I couldn’t have been more unlucky than that.”

Videos of former cricketer Anjum Chopra consoling Harmanpreet Kaur in her hug following India’s defeat have also gone viral on social media. The World Cup final will be held on February 26, 2023, between Australia and South Africa.
