Deepak Chahar, one of India’s promising fast-bowling talents, is eager to make an impression on his return from injury in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Chahar, who suffered a Grade 3 tear in his quad, has declared himself fit for the tournament and is eyeing a spot in the Indian team for the 50-over World Cup.
The 30-year-old is optimistic about his chances and wishes to emulate star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Chahar believes that improving his batting skills will make him a more valuable asset to the team. The pacer has already demonstrated his ability with the bat, scoring two half-centuries in his 13 One Day International (ODI) appearances.
Chahar’s determination to succeed is evident in his unwavering belief in his abilities. “If I can bowl around 140 kph, swing the ball both ways, I will not have any trouble getting batters out. And if I can bat a bit, I will always have a place in the Indian team – now and even 10-15 years later,” he said in an interview with Sports Tak.
The competition for a spot in the Indian team is intense, but Chahar believes that contributing in all three facets of the game is the key to standing out. He sees a dearth of fast bowling all-rounders in the country, making his role even more significant for the national team with the World Cup on the horizon.
Chahar cited Hardik Pandya as an example of an all-rounder who has excelled in all three departments of the game. He acknowledged that Pandya’s ability to bowl quick, swing the ball, and bat makes him the number one all-rounder in the world, and Chahar aims to follow in his footsteps.
“Look at Hardik Pandya – he does all three things; bowl quick, swing and bat; no one can take his place in the Indian team 1 or 2 years from now. He is the No. 1 all-rounder in the world because he can do all three. So it’s not just me; if any player can do that, he will warrant a place in the team,” he added.
Chahar’s determination to excel in all aspects of the game, coupled with his impressive track record, makes him a promising prospect for the Indian team. If he can continue to improve his game, there is no doubt that he will be a valuable asset to the team in the years to come.
