Rashid Latif criticizes India’s decision to persist with KL Rahul over Shubman Gill

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has criticized India’s opening batsman KL Rahul, claiming that he does not deserve to be in the playing XI while Shubman Gill is present in the squad. Rahul has been struggling with his form in international cricket, especially in Tests, where he has failed to score a half-century in his last ten innings. His poor form has invited criticism from several former cricketers who are demanding that he be dropped from the team.

Gill, on the other hand, has been in tremendous form across formats, scoring a hundred against Bangladesh in the first Test played in December, and two more centuries and a double century in January. Despite his impressive performances, Gill was left out of the playing XI for the first two Tests of the ongoing series against Australia.

Latif accused the Indian team management of favouritism towards Rahul, saying that they just want to play him despite his poor form. “Rahul doesn’t even deserve a spot in the XI when Shubman Gill is there. There is no excuse here. The management just want to play him,” Latif said on his YouTube channel.

Due to his poor form, Rahul was recently stripped of the vice-captaincy by the BCCI. Commenting on the matter, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh said that it will now be easier for the management to drop him from the team. Rahul has scored only 38 runs in the three innings played in the ongoing series against Australia.
