India’s Women’s T20 World Cup dream came to an end after they lost to Australia in the semi-finals. The five-run defeat left India heartbroken, as they failed to qualify for the finals of the tournament. Former cricketer Anjum Chopra shared her thoughts on the reasons behind India’s loss, during JioCinema’s daily show ‘#AAKASHVANI.’
Chopra criticized India’s bowling strategy and said that the team had fallen short in each and every department during the game. She highlighted Shafali Verma’s underwhelming fielding effort and said the young player needs to get polished to perform well in such crucial games. She also questioned India’s bowling strategy, stating that she did not understand it at all.
Despite not giving up many runs initially, India’s chances of chasing down Australia’s total of 172 were hindered by early setbacks. Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana failed to deliver a decent score, but Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues provided momentum to India’s innings. However, Kaur’s unfortunate dismissal allowed Australia to make a late comeback and win the match.
Australia will now face either England or South Africa in the final, which will be held on Sunday, February 26, at Newlands.
