Former Indian cricketer, Harbhajan Singh, has expressed his thoughts on the current situation of KL Rahul, the Indian cricket team’s opening batsman. Rahul’s poor run with the bat has been the talk of the town, and the news of his removal from the vice-captain’s post has created major buzzes, which hint at his exclusion from the team.
Harbhajan Singh has stated that it is time for the youngster, Shubman Gill, to get the well-deserved chance within the team. The 42-year-old stated that Gill is in a good shape to score those crucial runs in the opener’s slot, giving India the quality start they need in their batting.
“The reason why he (KL Rahul) hasn’t been named the vice-captain is because Shubman Gill will be picked for the next match over KL Rahul. Gill has been in terrific form of late, in ODIs and T20Is. He became the super hero, and I feel he will definitely get the chance,” said Harbhajan while speaking to India Today.
Regarding KL Rahul’s recent performance, Harbhajan Singh suggested that the 30-year-old should take some time off from international cricket and go back to playing domestic cricket to brush up his batting skills. Harbhajan Singh backed KL Rahul and stated that he is one of the top batters in world cricket, and he should give himself some time to regain his confidence.
“I consider him as one of the top batters in world cricket, let alone the Indian team. I think it will be good for KL Rahul to take some time off and play some domestic cricket, try and score runs and get his confidence back up. Then bring him back, he is a quality player, there’s no doubt about it,” added Harbhajan Singh.
