Gautam Gambhir was part of Star Sports’ commentary team for India vs Australia’s second Test in Delhi. He answered some intriguing questions from another commentator. The ex-KKR skipper had to choose two players he wished he had in his KKR team. He named two players even though he admitted it was a tough question.
“I have a simple answer to this difficult question. My first choice would be Rohit Sharma, and my second would be Yuvraj Singh. I wouldn’t need anyone else besides these two. I’m not saying we would have a perfect team, but we would have won more than two titles (with these two players),” Gambhir said.
“Rohit and I would open, Robin Uthappa at 3, Suryakumar Yadav at 4, Yuvraj at 5, Yusuf Pathan at 6, and Andre Russell at 7. You can imagine what a team that would be. We tried our best to get Yuvraj, but it didn’t happen,” the former India opener added.
The former batsman also said that Rohit Sharma was the only captain who gave him sleepless nights in the IPL. He also said he only made plans against him and not others. He praised Yuvraj as India’s greatest white-ball cricketer.
“Rohit Sharma was my nightmare as KKR captain. I didn’t need to plan for anyone else or think much about others. Yuvraj is India’s greatest white-ball cricketer, not just because of his World Cup performance but because of his immense talent and skill,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir played a key role in India’s T20 (2007) and ODI (2011) World Cup victories. The former opener played mostly under MS Dhoni’s captaincy who is India’s most successful captain
