Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians set to make history in 1000th match of the tournament

On February 17, the BCCI announced the dates and schedule for the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will begin on Friday, March 31. The upcoming edition will mark a historic milestone as two of the most successful teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), square off in the top-tier league’s 1000th match.

The historic match will take place on Saturday, May 6 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Since the league’s inception in 2008, there have been numerous jaw-dropping matches, many of which have gone down as some of the best games in world cricket history.

Furthermore, Mumbai and Chennai, which have won five and four titles, will only add to the excitement for the 1000th match of the tournament, according to the IPL schedule 2023.

Meanwhile, after holding the league in Mumbai, Pune, and Ahmedabad last season, the 16th season will feature as many as 12 venues, including a few matches in Guwahati and Dharamsala.

The defending champions Gujarat Titans face the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the season opener on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Furthermore, the traditional ‘home and away’ format returns to action after three years, with all teams playing seven home games and as many away games in the league phase prior to the play-offs.

The league also features 18 double headers, with afternoon matches beginning at 3:30 PM IST and evening games beginning at 7:30 PM IST. On May 28, the lucrative T20 league’s championship match will be played.

The BCCI has yet to confirm the official dates and venues for the extravagant event’s play-offs. Gujarat Titans, who made their debut last season, will be looking to add another title to their collection. Meanwhile, Mumbai and Chennai, who struggled in the previous edition, will try to turn the tables and reclaim their glory days.
