KL Rahul Faces Backlash From Former India Pacer After Another Failure

Indian opener KL Rahul’s recent poor form has sparked a debate among cricket experts and fans alike. The 30-year-old batsman has been struggling to score runs, leading to calls for his replacement in the national team. Rahul’s dismal performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has only added to the criticism.

Rahul was only able to score 20 runs in the first Test and managed to add only 17 runs to his tally before being dismissed by Nathan Lyon in the first innings of the second Test. Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad took to Twitter to express his disappointment with Rahul’s recent performances.

“Still considered by management as the second-best Test opener in a country with so much batting talent,” Prasad tweeted while sharing KL Rahul’s recent stats.

Prasad went on to state that Rahul’s consistent inclusion in the team gives an impression of a lack of batting talent in India, which is not true. “As per me, he is currently not amongst the current 10 best openers in India but is being given endless chances,” Prasad added.

Prasad also mentioned that other talented batsmen like Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan were not backed by the board as much as Rahul. “His inclusion shakes belief in Justice. SS Das had great potential, and so did S Ramesh, both avgd 38+ but did not get beyond 23 test matches,” he wrote.

Rahul’s poor form has led to many experts suggest that Shubman Gill should be the preferred choice for the opening slot. However, it remains to be seen if the team management will consider making changes to the playing XI in the upcoming matches of the series.
