Through a series of dramatic events, Australia recaptured the top spot in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings, dethroning India. The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently revised their points table for the Men’s Test Team Rankings, and to everyone’s surprise, India lost their top status to Border-Gavaskar Trophy foes Australia.
Australia is presently in first place with 3668 points in 29 matches and a rating of 126, while India has slid to second place with a rating of 115. India has 3690 points after competing in 32 matches.
Earlier in the day, when the ICC revised its rankings, India occupied the top place across all three forms.
India and Australia are now locked in an exciting arm wrestle, with India hosting the Kangaroos for a four-match Test series. India has already taken a 1-0 lead in the series thanks to their win in the first Test in Nagpur.
The spin assault of India, spearheaded by spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, destroyed the Australian batting order. Other than Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, only wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey could provide any resistance to India’s spin attack.
The other Australian hitters were unable to put up a fight, allowing India to grab an early lead in the series. India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, led from the front and struck the match-winning tonne. In addition, both Jadeja and Axar Patel got fifties, helping India to a 223-run advantage at the conclusion of their first innings.
After being bowled out for 177 in the first innings, Australia struggled to make any significant progress in the second innings and was rocked by Ashwin’s five-wicket haul to gift India a decisive victory. In their second innings, the Pat Cummins-led team was bowled out for 91 runs. The second Test between India and the visitors will begin on February 17 in Delhi.
