Left-arm bowler Jaydev Unadkat has been withdrawn from India’s Test team for the second Test match in order to compete in the Ranji Trophy finals beginning February 16.
Unadkat will join Saurashtra for the last game against Bengal, which would undoubtedly strengthen his team’s prospects ahead of the summit battle. Unadkat was not included to India’s starting Eleven for the Nagpur Test against Australia.
The BCCI sent a tweet to spread the news about the leaf-arm pacer. “Jaydev Unadkat released from India’s team for 2nd Test to compete in Ranji Trophy finals,” said the tweet.
Unadkat has 17 wickets this season in the Ranji Trophy, with his best bowling stats in an innings being 8/39. Thus far, he has a fantastic bowling average of 13.64 and a strike rate of 27.1, including a five-wicket haul.
Saurashtra beat Karnataka by four wickets in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Arpit Vasavada led Saurashtra in the match, and they opted to field first after winning the toss. Karnataka scored 407 runs in the first innings, but Saurashtra responded with 527 runs, with their skipper Arpit producing a spectacular double century.
The host team could only muster 234 runs in the second innings, whereas Arpit’s team only needed to chase 115 in the second innings to win the game. Arpit led the charge with the bat once again, scoring an important 47* run knock to assist the squad cross the finish line.
