As a big setback for India, Jasprit Bumrah is poised to miss the whole Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home. In August 2022, Bumrah experienced a back ailment. He did, however, return to action in September 2022, when he played two T20Is against Australia at home but was forced to take an extended absence from the game as his injury reappeared.
Bumrah was supposed to return by the third Test of the four-match series, but he has now been ruled out of the whole series because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not want to risk him with the ODI World Cup, which is set to be contested in India later this year.
The right-arm bowler was pulled from the Sri Lanka ODI series in January 2023 for the same reason: his fitness levels had not been decided, and the management chose not to put him in action in order to keep him fully healthy for the 50-overs World Cup. Bumrah was also picked to India’s T20 World Cup team, but Mohammad Shami took his position.
According to the Telegraph, it is unknown if Bumrah will be ready for the ODI series against Australia, and his prospects of making it remain slim.
“Bumrah has been enduring full-tilt bowling workouts at the NCA for the last three days and has pulled up nicely. “There was no stiffness the next day, which is the most hopeful element for him,” insiders told the Telegraph.
Bumrah is now focusing on his white ball abilities at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. A break from the Border Gavaskar Trophy allows him more time to recover.
