Former Indian cricketer and renowned spinner, Harbhajan Singh, has recently analyzed KL Rahul’s approach in the opening innings of the India vs. Australia Test match in Nagpur. The ex-cricketer claimed that Rahul could have scored more runs if he had shown a more positive intent at the crease.
Rahul opened the innings alongside Rohit Sharma, and the duo established a promising partnership for the Indian team. However, Rahul threw his wicket away towards the end of the first day after playing a lazy shot. He scored only 20 runs off 71 deliveries with just one boundary to his name.
Despite his contribution, Harbhajan Singh believes that Rahul could have converted his start into a bigger score. The veteran spinner emphasized that adopting an attacking approach could have boosted Rahul’s confidence, given his recent struggles on the pitch.
“KL Rahul would be disappointed as he was taking more time. I believe if he could have kept an attacking approach then he could have scored more. I hope in the second innings if he gets the chance to bat, he will score some runs for his own confidence,” Harbhajan Singh said during a recent discussion on his official YouTube channel.
The former cricketer also shared his thoughts on India’s overall performance, expressing hope that they would score above 300 runs in their first innings. He believes that a total of this nature would prove challenging for the Australian team to chase, especially given India’s formidable spin attack.
“I am hoping that India scores 300-350 on this pitch. Captain Rohit Sharma started a great inning (and) is not out with more than 50 runs. If India scores anywhere near 350 then I doubt Australia will be able to score more than 200 in the second innings. The more you bowl on this pitch, the more it will spin. If it spins then Australia will surrender against India’s three spinners,” he added.
