Legendary Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar Hails Suryakumar Yadav as ‘Perfectly Equipped’ for Test Cricket

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia set to kick off on February 9, all eyes are on the Indian squad and the players who will take to the field. One player who has been making headlines is Mumbai batsman Suryakumar Yadav, who is making his case for a Test debut.

Former Indian great Sachin Tendulkar recently spoke about Yadav’s inclusion in the squad and what impact he could have on the team. “Surya has made an incredible impression in T20s and ODIs and now in the Test squad. He looks perfectly equipped to play Test cricket. Someone of his calibre should be considered along with KL Rahul and Shubman Gill,” Tendulkar said in an interview with The Indian Express.

Another topic of discussion ahead of the first Test is the possible opening combinations. With Shubman Gill in good form, many veteran players have backed the 23-year-old to open the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma.

Tendulkar also weighed in on the recent form of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. “Shubman Gill has been in good form and Rahul hasn’t been able to contribute, but such is life. They both are excellent players and to retain their position in the team, one has to continue scoring runs,” he said.

The 49-year-old also spoke about the match-up between Indian skipper Kohli and Australian spinner Nathan Lyon, stating that world cricket requires such rivalries. The first Test between India and Australia will take place at the Vidharbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
