Former Australian cricketer Greg Chappell has highlighted the significance of Indian skipper Virat Kohli in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia. In an interview on the “Backstage with Boria” show, Chappell referred to Kohli as one of the best players in the modern era of the game and stressed on how his performance will be a determining factor in the outcome of the four-match Test series.
Chappell stated, “Virat is a very good player, one of the best, and the best players always want to perform their best in the best series. Kohli has always had a strong desire to defeat Australia and has produced some of his best innings against them. He will certainly have a major impact on this series.”
The former cricketer also acknowledged that if the Australian bowlers succeed in restricting Kohli’s scoring, it will give the Australian team a good chance of winning the series. “On the other hand, if Virat scores big runs, Australia will find it quite hard to win the series,” Chappell said.
The first Test between India and Australia is set to take place on February 9 at the Vidharbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, and both sides are geared up for a fiercely contested series. While India will look to continue its domination in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia will be hoping to secure a rare series win against India on Indian soil. The second Test will be held in Delhi from February 17, followed by the final two Tests in Dharamshala and Ahmedabad in March.
