Experienced Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin, who will play a key role in India’s four-match Test series against Australia, claims that Shreyas and Rishabh Pant have been India’s go-to Test batsmen in recent years.
The Border Gavaskar Trophy, which begins this month in Nagpur, will pit India and Australia against one other once again. The Asian Giants have won the previous three Border Gavaskar Trophies, and although India has home advantage this season, the Aussies will put up a fight in every Test.
India has named a complete team for the first two Test matches, which will be contested this month in Nagpur and Delhi. They have already suffered their first blow, as Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the Nagpur Test, which begins on February 9th, due to a back ailment that has kept him out for some time.
Rishabh Pant, who was involved in a terrible vehicle accident in December of last year, will already be missed throughout India. When chatting on his YouTube channel, Ashwin underlined how essential Iyer and Pant are to the squad and how they were both India’s go-to Test hitters in recent years.
“In recent years, Shreyas Iyer has become India’s go-to Test hitter with Rishabh Pant. It is a less flattering praise for him. He’s been the linchpin of this lineup. With Pant’s absence, he will be an important player for India,” Ashwin remarked.
The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper had a fantastic year in 2022, scoring 724 runs and making the ICC ODI Team of the Year with colleague and number one rated ODI bowler Mohammed Siraj. India will be hoping that Iyer is totally fit for the first Test, which is quickly approaching.
