After gaining the green light from the National Cricket Academy, Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is scheduled to begin the Test series against Australia on February 9 in Nagpur (NCA). According to reports, the NCA issued a fitness certificate that approved his participation in the critical Border Gavaskar Trophy, letting him to join the Indian red-ball squad.
The veteran all-rounder had surgery on his right knee in September 2022 and has since been sidelined. Jadeja will miss the Asia Cup 2022, as well as the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and the bilateral series against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand.
The 34-year-old was urged to play one game before the Test series, and he took seven wickets in a Ranji Trophy match for Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu. After his Ranji return, Jadeja went through his last set of fitness tests at the NCA and was given the all-clear to join the Test team.
After the series victory over New Zealand, Team India will turn their attention to the red-ball series against arch-rivals Australia. It is worth noting that the two teams are competing for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle final.
The Border Gavaskar Trophy has had 15 series played thus far, with India winning nine of them and Australia winning five and drawing one. The two heavyweight teams will square off at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, with the final match taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between March 9 and March 13.
India will seek a fourth straight victory in the series against Australia, as well as a place in the next World T20 final, which will be held in June of this year.
