Irfan Pathan believes Shubman Gill has the potential to dominate all formats of the game

Shubman Gill is back on top of the world after scoring his maiden century in T20I cricket. Irfan Pathan, a former cricketer turned analyst, praised his performance and feels he has the same potential as Virat Kohli.

There were worries over Gill’s status in the T20I squad since he hadn’t had a large score in his previous five outings and wasn’t turning his starts into big scores. Yesterday, in the decisive T20I against New Zealand, he hit his maiden T20I century and remained to the finish to ensure India got a large total. India won the game by a large margin of 168 runs, bowling the opponents out for a meagre 66 runs.

Irfan Pathan, a former India bowler, praised the Gujarat Titans hitter during a conversation on Star Sports. “I am a tremendous admirer of his hitting right now,” he remarked. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he can become an all-format player for you. Virat Kohli dominated all forms for many years, and this batter has the same potential. It’s a different story when it comes to performance.”

Pathan then discussed Shubman Gill’s recent form and how he is turning his beginnings into huge innings. “It occurs over time, but Shubman Gill has begun to do that,” he said. In August, he got his first century. Gill has already achieved six centuries in international cricket, and we are just halfway through February, while all other players have only scored four.”

Gill has a tremendous year ahead of him, beginning with the Border Gavaskar Trophy next week. After good performances in the restricted overs format, the opener will now try to create a mark for the Indian squad while wearing the whites.
