Bumrah on Track for Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Rohit Sharma Confirms Pacer’s Injury Recovery Progress

Team India captain, Rohit Sharma, provided a significant update on pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the team ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is set to begin on February 9th. Bumrah has been out of action due to a back injury and Sharma confirmed that the fast bowler is not expected to play in the first two Test matches against Australia, but is hopeful that he will be available for the last two.

“We don’t want to take any risks with him as back injuries are always critical. We have a lot of cricket coming back after that as well,” Sharma stated in a press conference following India’s series whitewash against New Zealand.

Sharma also mentioned that the team is in constant communication with the National Cricket Academy’s medical team and that they will monitor Bumrah’s progress closely to ensure a safe return to the field. The upcoming Test series against Australia will be crucial for both teams as it will determine which side will qualify for the summit of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.

After the conclusion of the Test series, India and Australia will also contest in a three-match ODI series in March. This series will be important for both teams as they prepare for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
