Shubman Gill Strikes Again: Notches Up 4th ODI Century

Shubman Gill, the 23-year-old Indian opener, is currently in the best phase of his career. After hitting a double century in the first ODI of the series against New Zealand, he once again reached the three-digit mark, hitting his fourth ODI century on January 24 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

Gill and Rohit Sharma made a strong start, scoring 82 runs in the powerplay and setting the tone for the rest of the innings. Gill, who usually takes some time to settle in, quickly brought up his half-century and then converted it into his fourth ODI century off just 71 deliveries. He was dismissed soon after by Kiwi bowler Blair Tickner, but his performance set the stage for the middle-order to build on.

India’s skipper Rohit Sharma also brought up his century in 83 deliveries, registering his 30th century in the 50-over format before being dismissed by Michael Bracewell. Twitter users were delighted with the batting masterclass from India’s openers, which will boost their confidence heading into the ODI World Cup as Team India aims to lift their first ICC trophy in 10 years.
