Dravid Stands Firm: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to Miss Ranji Trophy as Border-Gavaskar Preparations Take Priority

As the Indian ODI team prepares for their third and final match of the series against New Zealand on January 24, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has made it clear that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not be released to play for their domestic teams in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

This decision comes despite suggestions from former cricketers and experts that both players should participate in the tournament to maintain their fitness and rhythm ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

According to Dravid, the upcoming quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy clash with the build-up to the series against Australia, and the senior players will remain in the Indian camp. However, he did note that the management is open to releasing players who will not be part of the starting eleven for the semi-finals or final of the Ranji Trophy, and that selectors will not be picking players who are participating in the quarterfinals of the premier domestic competition.
