Rising Stars: Four U19 players earn call-ups as Bangladesh announces squad for Women’s T20 World Cup
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced the squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, set to begin on February 10 in South Africa. Four members of the Bangladesh women’s U19 team, Disha Biswas, Marufa Akter, Dilara Akter and Shorna Akter, have been named in the squad for their impressive performances in the ongoing Women’s U19 T20 World Cup.
The inclusion of these young players is expected to provide a solid balance to the team, which also features experienced players such as skipper Nigar Sultana Joty, Rumana Ahmed, Fahima Khatun, Salma Khatun, and Jahanara Alam. Afia Prottasha, an opener for the Bangladesh U19 team who has performed well in the ongoing U19 World Cup, unfortunately did not make the cut.
The senior women’s team will depart for Cape Town for a pre-event training camp and will play two practice matches against Ireland leading up to the World Cup. Prior to the start of the tournament, they will take on Pakistan in their first warm-up game on February 6 in Cape Town and will then play against Asian giants and last edition’s runners-up India on February 8 in Stellenbosch. Bangladesh will begin their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on February 12.
