Shami’s Priorities: Indian pacer opens up on preference for match play over net sessions ahead of IND vs NZ series

Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami, has stated that he prefers playing matches to maintain his fitness rather than participating in practice sessions. The veteran bowler, who was instrumental in India’s series-clinching win against New Zealand in the second ODI, took three wickets and helped the team chase down a target of 108 runs. Shami believes that playing maximum number of games is the best way to prepare for the 2023 ODI World Cup, and that it’s too early to finalize the squad combination for the competition.

In an interview with Indian Express, Shami said, “I always prefer playing matches over practice. It is always better to play maximum number of games to get ready for a big event. Load is being managed and it is being managed properly. I just hope the main players stay in a good zone (ahead of the World Cup).”

With the World Cup on the horizon, the Indian team will focus on maintaining consistency and managing the workload of the players in order to keep them fit for the mega event. India will take on New Zealand in the final ODI in Indore on January 24.
