Shahid Afridi Shuts Down Rumors of Shan Masood’s Captaincy
Former Pakistan cricket captain, Shahid Afridi, has denied rumors that Shan Masood is under consideration for the national ODI captaincy. Reports had surfaced earlier this week that Masood was being considered for the role after he was named vice-captain for the ODI series against New Zealand. However, Afridi stated that Masood was not even under consideration for the first two ODIs against New Zealand, and that his selection as vice-captain was not based on his performances for Derbyshire.
Afridi also criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision-making process, stating that the chairman, Najam Sethi, should have consulted with the chief selector and current captain, Babar Azam, before making the announcement. He also expressed his belief that Babar Azam has room for improvement as a captain, and emphasized the importance of having one captain for ODI and Test cricket, and another for T20s.
The recent 1-2 loss against New Zealand in the home series has led to speculation about potential changes to the Pakistan cricket captaincy. However, Afridi has made it clear that Shan Masood is not under consideration for the role, and that Babar Azam should continue to improve as captain.
