Kapil Dev speaks out: “Disappointed” over Suryakumar Yadav’s benching in Team India
The Indian cricket legend, Kapil Dev, is left disappointed after Team India benched Suryakumar Yadav in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The Mumbai-born player has been phenomenal in T20 cricket for Team India and has the unique ability to place the ball in the gaps and beat the bowler with his strengths. Despite getting regular opportunities in ODI cricket, he hasn’t been able to make a big score yet.
In an interview with Gulf News, Kapil said, “I failed to understand the call taken by the team management to drop Suryakumar Yadav from the ODI team against Sri Lanka. He’s a match winner and can win you games with the quality of shots he has in his skill-set.”
The World Cup winning captain believes that there should be three different teams for all the three formats to give more players a chance. He said, “I think we should leave it to the cricket board what they (selectors) plan. There are so many cricketers coming so everyone should get a chance to play. From what I can see from the outside is that they will have three teams – one each for T20Is, ODIs and Tests. That way, you can have a bigger pool.”
With 17 more ODIs and the Asia Cup before the ODI World Cup in October, this is a great chance for Team India to test out all players and formalize a proper squad full of talent and experience. Kapil Dev’s disappointment with the benching of Suryakumar Yadav is an indication of the quality and potential of the player.
