Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, two Indian cricketing legends, have registered for the auction of the first Women’s IPL (WIPL). According to the Hindustan Times, former India captain Mithali and speed spearhead Jhulan have opened the way to playing in the top-tier competition.
The announcement of the two senior cricketers will undoubtedly give the tournament a significant boost, as both have represented India from the front throughout their time with the national side. The graceful right-hander last played a T20I against England in 2019 before retiring from all forms in June of last year.
Jhulan Goswami, the lanky bowler, made a fairly diplomatic comment regarding playing in the league in 2022.
The WIPL will surely provide a fantastic platform for both local and international players to get exposure and improve their skills. If stories of Jhulan and Mithali attending the event are true, a lot of young cricketers would be looking forward to sharing the changing rooms and playing under their wing to acquire expertise.
The season is expected to begin in March and would most likely be played in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. In addition, the auction for the first edition is currently slated for early February.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the reigning IPL winners Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians are interested in making bids for WIPL franchises.
