Sunil Joshi has been named Punjab Kings’ spin-bowling coach, the team announced on Monday (January 16). Joshi, a former India left-arm spinner, was a member of the India senior men’s selection panel till recently.
Joshi joins the coaching team led by Trevor Bayliss, who took over for Anil Kumble during the previous IPL season. He is part of a revised support team that includes the return of Wasim Jaffer and Charl Langeveldt as batting and bowling coaches, respectively. The Kings also swapped captains a few months ago, choosing Shikhar Dhawan captain and discharging Mayank Agarwal.
Joshi had a same position with Bangladesh before becoming the spin-bowling coach for the Punjab squad in 2019. He has also coached Ranji teams in Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, and Assam.
Joshi was designated head selector of the India squad in 2020 before Chetan Sharma took over, although he remained on the panel until the new one was unveiled in January 2023.
The Kings, who finished second in 2014, have had a mediocre few seasons, placing sixth in the previous four IPLs.
