Hat-Trick Hero: Hobart Hurricanes’ Nathan Ellis takes 3 wickets across two overs against Sydney Thunder in BBL 12

As the deputy of Hobart Hurricanes, Nathan Ellis, demonstrated exceptional skill and precision in taking a hat-trick over multiple overs against Sydney Thunder during the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The opposing team, led by Chris Green, had a poor showing, scoring a mere 135 runs in 20 overs.

Ellis, who was playing at his best, secured a hat-trick, taking three wickets in two consecutive overs. In the final ball of the fourth over, he dismissed Matthew Gilkes on LBW, and in the first two deliveries of the 15th over, he took the wickets of Oliver Davies and Nathan McAndrew, who were caught and bowled, respectively.

Interestingly, Ellis was not aware that he had taken three-in-three and made a subdued celebration after claiming McAndrew’s wicket. In his four overs, he had a four-wicket haul, conceding 27 runs at an economy rate of 6.75.

Although Hobart Hurricanes was favored to win and chase down the 136 runs, they lost three early wickets within five overs. This match is crucial for both teams as they stand in the bottom half of the table, with a fair chance of making it to the elimination rounds. The hosts may have been shaken by losing their top-order batters early on, but skipper Matthew Wade will look to lead by example and provide his team the vital runs needed to win the game. The outcome of this match remains uncertain, as it is unclear whether Sydney Thunder will be able to defend their low score or if Hobart Hurricanes will easily chase it down with the help of their middle-order batters.
