The Indian Premier League is a forum where top-tier cricketers from across the globe gather to demonstrate their prowess on the cricket pitch. Many superstars of the game have graced the IPL, including Glenn McGrath, Sachin Tendulkar, Chris Gayle, and Virat Kohli.
Fans will see numerous top-tier players take the stage in the 2023 edition of the lucrative T20 competition. However, several players who have repeatedly stamped their authority on the cricket field may be unable to participate in the forthcoming season owing to injury.
Here are three players that might miss the IPL 2023 owing to injuries.
Number 1. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant has been a match-winner for India in the game’s longest format. The 25-year-old has attacked the opposition from the start, scoring 2271 runs in 33 matches at an average of 43.67. He has also shown his worth in one-day internationals, scoring 865 runs in 30 matches at a strike rate of 106.65.
Pant has been amazing in the Indian Premier League. He has played in the competition since 2016, totaling 2838 runs in 98 matches with a strike rate of 147.97. The southpaw was named captain of the Delhi franchise for the 2021 season and led the team to the playoffs. However, he was unable to repeat the feat in the previous season, as DC finished sixth.
Pant was going to Roorkee when he was involved in an automobile accident on the Delhi-Dehradun route on December 30. He is presently hospitalised and being closely monitored. It is improbable that he will be fully healthy for the start of the 16th IPL season.
Number 2. Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar is a gun swing bowler who is active on the Indian circuit. He has played 24 T20Is and taken 29 wickets with an economy of 8.17. The ace pacer has also been outstanding in the IPL, taking 59 wickets in 63 games with an economy rate of 7.8.
Chahar, on the other hand, has been afflicted by injuries on a regular basis. Due to a back ailment, he was forced to miss the whole 15th season of the cash-rich competition. In August 2022, he returned to international action in an ODI series against Zimbabwe.
After a lengthy injury layoff, the ace pacer was steadily regaining to form and was one of the stand-by players for the T20 World Cup 2022. However, Chahar was unable to go to Australia due to back and hip injuries. Then, in the second game of the ODI series against Bangladesh, he sustained a hamstring injury that he is still nursing.
The Chennai Super Kings paid a hefty INR 14 crore to get Chahar in the 2022 mega auction, and it remains to be seen if the Agra native would wear the yellow jersey in the following season.
Number 3. Phil Salt
Phil Salt is a well-known name on the T20 circuit. The ace hitter has shown his ability to take the assault to the opponent from the outset, giving his team a quick start. He has appeared in 167 shortest format matches and scored 3817 runs with a strike rate of 150.39.
In international cricket, the wicketkeeper-batter has also been outstanding. Salt’s stroke style has put top-tier attacks to task, as he has hammered 245 runs in 13 matches at a fantastic strike rate of 161.18.
The Bodelwyddan native had a grade two ligament damage in his shoulder when diving to attempt to save a David Warner boundary during the last game of the three-match ODI series in November 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Following the incident, Salt was unable to participate in that game.
Due to a shoulder injury, Salt has been ruled out of the Big Bash League for 2022-23. It remains to be seen if the England batter will be able to recuperate in time for the 2018 season of the cash-rich competition, in which he is set to play for the Delhi Capitals.
