Shivam Mavi, an Indian bowler, made his mark on the globe when he took four wickets in a T20I against Sri Lanka. The Hardik Pandya-led squad faced the Islanders in the first of three T20I series matches at Mumbai’s legendary Wankhede Stadium, taking a 1-0 series lead thanks to a last-ball thriller.
Mavi, who made his national team debut in the match, returned with outstanding bowling numbers, taking four wickets and conceding just 22 runs in his four overs. Following the completion of the match, Mavi shared his sentiments about making his international debut, calling it ‘a dream come true’.
The Uttar Pradesh-born pacer has been a key figure in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and local circuit, but has been forced to sit out owing to injury. As a result, Mavi had to wait almost six years for his call-up to join the Men in Blue. He also mentioned that he had a scheme in place for the game, which might explain why the pacer had such good stats in his innings.
“After the U-19 World Cup when I played IPL and domestic games, I suffered injuries. But I was clear in my mind that I need to raise my fitness level. I was performing but was getting injured as well. So, I worked hard and got the desired results,” told Mavi.
