Indian Cricketer Jasprit Bumrah Named in ODI Squad, Cleared to Play Against Sri Lanka

After being confirmed fit to play, Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been named in the ODI team for the forthcoming home series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah, who has been out of action since September 2022 due to an injury, has finished his treatment and will return to play.

India and Sri Lanka will first meet in a three-match T20I series at the Wankhede Stadium on January 3, 2023. The ODI series will begin on Tuesday, January 10, with the senior players returning to the squad. If Bumrah does well in ODIs, India’s team will be strengthened when they meet Australia in their last Test series of the WTC 2021-23 cycle in February.

Bumrah last appeared in action in September 2022, when he faced Australia in a home T20I series. However, his injury has dealt India a big setback, as the pacer has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup in 2022. Bumrah was also left out of India’s team for three One-Day Internationals and two Tests against Bangladesh.

The bowler was sent to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for rehabilitation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Bumrah’s rehabilitation on Tuesday, revealing that the NCA has certified him fit to play and that he has been added to India’s ODI team.

Hardik Pandya will head a considerably younger group against Sri Lanka in the forthcoming T20I series, while the experienced players have been rested. Regular captain Rohit Sharma will return to lead India in the 50-over games, with Pandya as his deputy. The management will keep an eye on Bumrah to ensure that he is not overburdened with duties and that he remains healthy for upcoming games.
