‘Impact players’ are introduced by BCCI for the IPL 2023.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to implement the impact players rule in the IPL 2023, a significant milestone. The announcement was made through the IPL’s official Twitter account.

The tweet was as follows:

“From the Tata IPL 2023 season, a tactical concept will be introduced to add a new dimension to the IPL, wherein one substitute player per team will be able to take a more active part in an IPL match.”

Previously, the BCCI used the strategy in the just-ended Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to make the format more entertaining.

At the toss, the sides must declare four replacements or impact players, of whom only one may be used during the game.

Furthermore, the substitute may replace any member of the starting XI at any time before completing the 14th over of either inning and bat or bowl his entire quota of overs.

The IPL mini-auction scheduled for December 23 in Kochi has a record-breaking 991 players registered.
