IPL 2023 – Shardul Thakur was traded from the Delhi Capitals to the Kolkata Knight Riders before to the auction

Shardul Thakur, a bowling all-rounder, found a new club when the Delhi Capitals agreed to transfer him to the Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2023 season. According to sources, the transaction was completed on Monday, November 14 in an all-cash transaction.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Shardul’s old side, Chennai Super Kings, as well as the defending IPL winners Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, showed interest in purchasing him, but the Delhi franchise was not persuaded.

Shardul Thakur will be representing his sixth IPL squad this season. Palghar’s past teams include the Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants, the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings, and the Delhi Capitals.

Thakur was signed by the Delhi Capitals for a whopping INR 10.75 crore after being released by CSK during the IPL 2022 super auction in February. Nonetheless, his results were subpar, as he only managed 15 scalps from the 14 matches he played throughout the season, with an economy of 9.79. He also batted 138 times and scored 120 runs.

The bowling all-rounder has been included in India’s team for the three-match One-Day International series against New Zealand. He’ll be hoping that his performances will speak for themselves as he tries to get on the radar of selectors for next year’s 50-over World Cup.

Meanwhile, this is the third player acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders during the transfer window. The other two players are Lockie Ferguson of New Zealand and Rahmanullah Gurbaz of Afghanistan. Gujarat Titans, the current champions, just traded these two players to KKR.

Shardul Thakur offers a wealth of experience to the KKR team, having previously been a key player of the Chennai Super Kings’ two championship successes in 2018 and 2021.
