IPL 2023 – 3 Players who the Mumbai Indians may trade away

The Mumbai Indians are often regarded as the most dominant team in the Indian Premier League. However, they had a forgettable season in the 15th edition of the lucrative T20 event. They were the wooden spoon holders, with just four victories in 14 games. It was one of those rare seasons when Mumbai couldn’t seem to get their act together from the start.

One of the reasons the five-time IPL winners struggled during their season was their dismal performance at the IPL Mega Auction. MI must do things right if they are to reclaim its former glory, and the first step might be making the most use of the approaching IPL 2023 transfer window.

The think tank may consider releasing players who are not in their plans for the next season. Here are some players, who we think, will be traded away by the Mumbai Indians.

.

Number 1. Basil Thampi

Basil Thampi has shown to be a reliable performer on the home circuit. He demolished opponents with frequent wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 season as well, picking up eight wickets at an economy of 7.95 for Kerela.

The Mumbai Indians selected the 29-year-old in this year’s auction and provided him a regular run in the tournament’s early stages. Thampi, on the other hand, was unable to impress with his bowling skills. He grabbed five wickets and surrendered runs at a 9.50 economy rate in five matches.

Thampi was released from the team following his regular appearances and was not recalled. The speedster not being allowed another run may indicate that the Mumbai squad has moved on from the Kerela pacer. The MI camp may want to move the quick bowler during the next trading window.

Number 2. Fabian Allen

Fabian Allen is a fierce batter of a cricket ball who can also bowl off-spin. The Mumbai Indians signed the Caribbean all-rounder ahead of the 2022 season, but things did not go as planned. Allen only had one chance, during which he took one wicket and gave 46 runs at an economy rate of 11.50. He also didn’t make much of an effect with the bat.

Allen was brought in to provide balance to the side and to finish matches with the bat. However, his selection required the use of one abroad place, limiting his chances of making the XI. Sanjay Yadav, who was on fire with the bat in the recently completed Tamil Nadu Premier League, is among Mumbai’s players. He scored 452 runs in nine games with a strike rate of 186.78 and got six wickets.

Furthermore, the five-time IPL winners already have finishers with the ball in Kieron Pollard and Tim David. As a result, they may decide to release Allen in order to free up an overseas spot for a player who is a better fit for the squad.

Number 3. Tymal Mills

Tymal Mills has a track record of success on the T20 circuit. The England pacer is known for his deceiving slower deliveries, which make him a difficult bowler to break down at the tail end of an innings. At the 2022 IPL Auction, the Mumbai Indians paid INR 1.5 crore for the left-arm seamer to partner Jasprit Bumrah at the death.

However, the left-arm seamer was unable to live up to his expectations and had a disappointing season last season. Mills appeared in five MI games, taking six wickets and allowing runs at an alarming average of 11.18. The 30-year-old was dismissed following a string of bad performances, and his ankle injury forced him to miss the rest of the season.

Daniel Sams, on the other hand, had a solid season for Rohit Sharma and company, taking 13 wickets in 11 games. The Australian all-rounder, who bats left-handed, has the same ability as Mills and is a useful alternative with the bat. With Sams on the rise and Jofra Archer expected to be healthy for the 2017 season, the Mumbai franchise is set to release the England bowler in the forthcoming trade window.
