Mayank Agarwal and Yash Dhull have been named to the Rest of India team for the Irani Cup 2022
The rest of India has named a formidable 15-man team for their forthcoming Irani Cup match against Ranji Trophy champions Saurashtra. Young batters Yash Dhull and Yashaswi Jaiswal have been included in the team, as predicted, after a streak of good performances in domestic cricket this year. Mayank Agarwal, a veteran Indian opener, is also included in the team, which will be captained by ace batter Hanuma Vihari.
Dhull, a 19-year-old Delhi hitter, is off to a good start in local red-ball cricket after leading India to the 2022 U-19 World Cup victory. Dhull achieved hundreds in his Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy debuts this year. So far, he has 770 runs in five First-Class games, including a 200* knock against Chhattisgarh in a Ranji Trophy match.
Yashaswi also maintained his hot streak in the just-finished Duleep Trophy 2022 competition, scoring 497 runs in three matches for the victors West Zone. Sarfaraz Khan, who concluded the 2022 Ranji Trophy season as the highest run-scorer with 982 runs in six matches, is also named in the squad.
In contrast to a strong batting squad, the bowling section for the rest of India lacks renowned stars. The pace attack is led by Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Sen, Arzan Nagwaswalla, and Umran Malik, with specialist spin options Saurabh Kumar and Jayant Yadav. Mukesh and Saurabh have been frequent wicket-takers in domestic cricket, taking nine wickets apiece against New Zealand A this month.
However, Umran, a 22-year-old fast, has failed to make an impression in domestic cricket so far. He only took one wicket in three innings against New Zealand A and has eight wickets in eight First-Class innings. From October 1-5, the Rest of India and Saurashtra will compete for the Irani Cup 2022 trophy in Rajkot.
