Shakib Al Hasan will miss Bangladesh’s visit to the United Arab Emirates, and Nurul Hasan has been designated stand-in captain

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stated that T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan would miss the UAE trip. Shakib recently joined the Guyana Amazon Warriors of the Caribbean Premier League 2022 (CPL) and had already received NOC from the board prior to the announcement of the UAE trip. In his absence from the UAE trip, Nurul Hasan has been named team captain.

After their three-day training camp at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium was canceled owing to heavy rain, BCB scheduled a two-match T20I series in the UAE beginning September 25. BCB’s top selector, Minhajul Abedin, has stated that all chosen players must undergo two fitness tests at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Thursday (September 22) before traveling to the UAE.

Bangladesh will play two Twenty20 Internationals (September 25 and 27) before returning to Bangladesh on September 28. The team will next travel to New Zealand for a tri-nation T20I series against Pakistan, which will begin on October 7. Shakib will join the team in New Zealand since the board has given him permission to do so until October 4.

The experienced all-rounder captained Bangladesh in the just-ended 2022 Asia Cup, where they were eliminated from the Super Four phase after suffering two losses in two group stage matches. He just took over as captain of the T20I team, although he will not be part of the squad for the UAE trip.

Soumya Sarkar has made a return, while left-arm quick Shoriful Islam has also been named to the team.
