Women’s T20 Asia Cup – India announce 15-member squad to participate in the tournament

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed India’s roster for the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2022 a day after the dates for the continental tournament were finalized. For the event, a roster of 15 players has been chosen, with two players traveling as reserves. Bangladesh will host the event from October 1 to 15.

The Asia Cup will be contested in the T20 format, with Harmanpreet Kaur commanding the Indian team and Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy. The roster is quite similar to the one that just played a three-match T20I series against England. The Women in Blue have won the Asia Cup a record six times, giving India the greatest winning record.

Regulars like Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Sneh Rana, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad have been nominated to the main squad, among others. Kiran Navgire, who made her debut against England lately, has been promoted to the main roster. Her track record in the 20-over format is outstanding, and she is the player to watch.

The Indian squad is presently playing a bilateral series in England. India lost the T20I series 1-2, but the players put up some outstanding performances with both the bat and the ball. Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues have all performed well in the 20-over format.

Due to an injury, the young batter was unable to participate in the England series, but he is anticipated to return for the Asia Cup. Richa Ghosh has been named first-choice wicketkeeper following a strong performance against England. Taniya Bhatia and Simran Bahadur have been appointed as backups.

The Women’s Asia Cup will return after a four-year absence. The seven-team competition’s round-robin format will see each club play six games in the league round before the top four teams advance to the semifinals. All games will be contested at Sylhet, and India will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on an opening day.

The Indian squad to participate in the tournament is as follows –

Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Sabbineni Meghana, Richa Ghosh (wicket-keeper), Sneh Rana, Dayalan Hemalatha, Meghna Singh, Renuka Thakur, Pooja Vastrakar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Radha Yadav, K.P. Navgire
