Due to his outstanding athletic accomplishments, the Sri Lanka Army has promoted Maheesh Theekshana to the rank of Sergeant
Maheesh Theekshana, a mystery spinner from Sri Lanka, has been elevated to the rank of Sergeant in the Sri Lankan Army. The right-arm spinner who helped his side win the 2022 T20 Asia Cup was promoted due to outstanding athletic performances.
Aside from Theekshana, numerous other local athletes who succeeded in their various sports were given monetary incentives and trophies for their efforts. In addition to Theekshana, the prizes were handed to T.T Algama, K.B.Y De Silva, and M.A.I.J Perera of the Sri Lankan National Netball team, who recently won the Asian Netball Championship.
Similarly, Lance Corporal R.A.D.P Rajapaksha, who won a bronze medal in the Asian Bodybuilding Championship, was promoted to Corporal.
The short ceremony was also attended by Major General WASS Wanasinghe RSP USP, Commander, Security Forces Mullaittivu, Major General WBSM Abeysekera RSP USP, Director General Financial Management, and Brigadier KAWNH Bandaranayake USP, Director, Army Sports.
The Johannesburg Super Kings have signed the mystery spinner for the 2018 SA20 League. The 22-year-old, on the other hand, will be hoping to give his all at the 2022 T20 World Cup and assist his team win the coveted championship. The Sri Lankan team will enter the tournament full of confidence after winning the 2022 Asia Cup.
The host country was defeated by Bangladesh after losing their opening match in the tournament against Afghanistan. Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan in their Super Four matches before reaching the finals.
Few predicted that Sri Lanka would win the final match against Pakistan, but a strong batting effort from Bhanuka Rajapaksa, along with a brilliant bowling performance from Wanindu Hasaranga, ensured that the Lankan team won the Asia Cup for the sixth time.
