ICC World T20 2022 – 5 IPL Stars who will not feature in the tournament

The T20 World Cup brings together some of the most famous personalities in cricket. The greatest players from the world’s major cricketing countries compete for the title. Something similar will happen in Australia’s next T20 tournament.

However, several of the players who have excelled in the Indian Premier League and are highly regarded in the T20 circuit will not compete in the global game in October.

Let’s talk about 5 IPL stars who will not be a part of the tournament this year.

.

Number 1. Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan played for India in the T20 World Cup 2021 and was considered for the global competition in Australia. However, his lack of batting form proved his downfall, as he was unable to make the team.

Kishan had a mediocre IPL season this year. He did score 418 runs, but at a poor strike rate of 120.11. The Jharkhand hitter showed glimpses of brilliance with the bat in the little opportunities he received for the Men in Blue, but with veteran professionals like KL Rahul and Virat Kohli back in the mix, the youngster’s chances were restricted.

The 24-year-old got the opportunity to fill in as a backup wicket-keeper. However, with Dinesh Karthik in fine form and playing the role of a ‘finisher’ to perfection, Kishan’s World Cup ambitions were dashed.

Number 2. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has been a standout hitter on the Indian circuit. The wicket-keeper hitter has been a steady performer in the IPL and local cricket but has yet to break through in international cricket.

The 27-year-old scored 458 runs with a strike rate of 146.79 in 17 matches during the just concluded IPL, and as a result, he was picked into the national T20 team. Samson had some fantastic innings and was in the running for a trip to Australia.

The Kerala batter was competing for a backup batter post after a rigorous tryout for the wicketkeeper role. Deepak Hooda had an outstanding season in both the IPL and for India. He provided versatility with the bat and was a useful alternative with the ball. As a result, the selectors chose Hooda above others, including Samson, for the T20 spectacular.

.

Number 3. Jonny Bairstow

This year, Jonny Bairstow has been in top form. He was instrumental in England’s red-ball comeback and a vital component of the T20 squad. However, the ace batter sustained a lower limb injury and would be unable to compete in the forthcoming flagship tournament.

Bairstow was injured while playing golf in Leeds as a consequence of a “freak” accident. He missed the third Test against South Africa and will also miss the global tournament.

The Yorkshire native is renowned for his daring batting attitude, which was on display in the IPL 2022. Bairstow scored 253 runs in 11 games with the Punjab Kings at a strike rate of 144.57. The dynamic batsman is a game-changer with the bat, and his absence from the World Cup is a huge blow to the Jos Buttler team.

.

Number 4. Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis is one of the most sought-after T20 players. He is a run machine at the top of the order and has shown his batting prowess in the IPL 2022. For his new team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, the seasoned hitter scored 468 runs at a strike rate of 127.52.

The former South African captain withdrew from Test cricket last year in order to devote more time to other forms. He has, however, not been a part of Proteas’ plans since. He was not given a central contract and was not selected for the World Cup last year. Unfortunately, the 38-year-old has met the same end this time.

Du Plessis has been a behemoth of a player in the shortest format, as well as a match-winner for his national team. The Pretoria native has 1528 runs with a strike rate of 134.38 in 50 T20Is.

.

Number 5. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is one of the top all-rounders in the world across all forms. With his all-around skill, he has been a critical cog in the Men in Blue wheel, bringing much-needed balance to the side. Due to a knee ailment, the experienced allrounder will be unable to compete in the flagship competition.

The 33-year-old suffered the injury during the Asia Cup 2022 and has since been ruled out of the team. Jadeja had knee surgery and will not be able to return in time for the World Cup.

The dependable allrounder has shown his worth in the T20 circuit, whether it’s the IPL or international cricket. Despite having a terrible IPL 2022 season in which he only scored 116 runs at a strike rate of 118.37, Jadeja produced some fantastic innings for the Men in Blue. In the T20 World Cup, his contributions will be much missed.
