VVS Laxman to be India’s coach for the Zimbabwe ODI Series
In the absence of normal head coach Rahul Dravid, who is slated to travel to the UAE with India’s T20I team for the Asia Cup 2022, National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman will function as India’s head coach for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. Laxman was also India’s coach for the trip to Ireland, which coincided with the Indian team’s Test tour of England.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced that Laxman would lead India in the three-match ODI series, but that Rahul Dravid will not take a vacation. He said that the time gap between the Asia Cup team departing for the UAE and the conclusion of the Zimbabwe tour is just one day, and therefore Dravid would have to be with the T20I squad rather than the ODI group.
“Yes, VVS Laxman will be in charge of the Indian team in Zimbabwe for the three-match ODI series. It’s not like Rahul Dravid is taking a break. The ODI series in Zimbabwe finishes on August 22 and Dravid along with the Indian team will reach the UAE on August 23,” Jay Shah said.
